When it comes to shipping the fine art photography of David Matyis—whose award-winning giclée and metal prints are admired around the world—careful packaging is not just important, it’s essential. Each print represents not only David’s creative vision but also the trust collectors place in receiving a work that is gallery-ready upon arrival. Our packaging process reflects that level of respect and attention to detail.

Professional, Protective, and Cost-Effective
We understand that maintaining a professional presentation while keeping material costs under control is crucial. That’s why we’ve developed a shipping process that balances protection, appearance, and efficiency.

At the heart of our method is the use of archival, acid-free materials—especially for anything that comes into direct contact with the giclée prints. This includes acid-free plastic sleeves and acid-free tape to seal each print securely. These materials ensure the longevity and preservation of David’s fine art photographs, protecting them from chemical damage during transit.

While outer materials like cardboard and standard packing tape are not acid-free, they pose no immediate risk during standard shipping times of 1–2 weeks. However, we always advise collectors or galleries to remove prints from their packaging promptly upon arrival to avoid prolonged exposure that could affect the artwork over time.

Flat Shipping for Optimal Presentation
Whenever possible, David’s giclée and metal prints are shipped flat—never rolled. Prints up to 20″ x 30″ are packaged in reinforced flat boxes to prevent curling or creasing. This is especially important for heavyweight fine art paper, which can be difficult to roll without risking damage. Shipping flat ensures that your artwork arrives in pristine, ready-to-frame condition—exactly as it was intended to be seen.

Oversized Prints: Special Care for Large-Format Art
For oversized Giclée prints larger than 30″ x 40″, special care is taken to package them securely using a professional roll method. These prints are gently wrapped around a sturdy 3-inch core, then placed in a durable shipping tube with stabilizing plastic end caps to prevent shifting during transit.

While this may seem contradictory to our preference for flat shipping, the physics of larger prints actually allow them to be rolled more safely. Once unrolled, they will flatten out with no lasting issues. That said, we strongly recommend handling these larger prints with extreme care during unpacking, as fine art paper is delicate and susceptible to creasing if mishandled.
